"Anyway, you need people of intelligence on this sort of mission... quest... thing."
Most of my all-time favorite scenes from Middle-Earth come from two of my favorite characters: Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took. I cannot watch or read about them without a smile coming to my face. And the following scene is no exception.
~*~*~*~*~
Pippin: Not too happy at all, Merry.
Merry: Still, I suppose the view would be quite nice from up there.
Pippin: Oh, yes. It's a quality establishment. I hear the staff are very good.
(Pippin turns and catches Merry measuring the height of both hobbits)
Pippin: What are you doing?
Merry: Nothing. World's back to normal. That's all.
Pippin: No, it isn't. I'm starving.
Merry: Good luck trying to find something decent to eat around here. Probably only dead rats and moldy bread.
(Pippin finds an apple in the water and plucks it up; both hobbits soon discover a line of food floating from a nearby room, and Pippin drops his apple in favor of a basket of chicken)
Merry: Saruman's storeroom!
Merry: It can't be!
(Pippin opens a barrel)
Pippin: It is!
Merry: Longbottom leaf. The finest pipeweed in the South Farthing!
Pippin: It's perfect! One barrel each! Wait... do you think we should share it with Treebeard?
Merry: Share it? Uh... no. No! He might not understand. Dead plant and all that. Could be a distant relative.
Pippin: Ah, I get it. Don't be hasty.
Merry: Exactly. Bar-hum!

Why is this scene a favorite? Because it ties in so many other scenes from the movies, and it's Merry and Pippin at their best. How can you not watch this and laugh?
This was one of my brother's favorite scenes. :) I loved this scene... "Anyway, you need people of intelligence on this sort of mission... quest... thing." "Well that certainly rules you out." XD I love those two.
ReplyDelete*laughing* THIS SCENE IS HILARIOUS!!!
ReplyDeletePretty much every time Pippin or Merry opens their mouth it is funny.
Och, I love that scene! Those two daft hobbits. Poor Merry and Pippin had been captured by orcs, spent days eating practically nothing - a trial to any man, but these are *hobbits* - gone into to battle with the Ents, and they are now stranded in a flooded fortess, without the slightest idea what has happened to their friends. And there they are, hobbit-fashion - sitting down to supper, as if that were the most natural thing in the world!
